Brer Rabbit Stories

Show dates:  April 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25

Auditions:  March 1 and 2.  Roles for children 5 to 12. 

An NCTC original play based on classic stories by the trickster Brer Rabbit, who uses wit and words to escape from sticky situations.  The author who popularized the Brer Rabbit stories, Joel Chandler Harris, was born in Eatonton, Georgia.


Cabaret by Joe Masteroff  

Show dates:  May 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23

Auditions:  March 8 and 9.  Roles for older children, teens, and adults.

Set in Germany in the 1930s, the emcee of this musical invites us to escape to the Kit Kat Klub.  Directed by Paul Conroy.


Psycho Beach Party by Charles Busch

June 25, 26, 27 and July 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18

Chicklet, a perky teenager in Malibu Beach in the 1960s, wants to learn to surf.  Unfortunately she suffers from a multiple personality disorder.  Seeing red causes her to transform into various other selves, including a sinister dominatrix, a check-out girl, and a radio show host.  Part comedy, drama, murder mystery, musical, and farce.  All of these parts make a show with a climatic wild luau where hypnosis reveals the shocking roots of Chicklets problems.  Not recommended for children due to adult situations.  Directed by Jeff Allen.

Auditions:  Sunday, May 9 and Monday, May 10.  Roles for teenagers and college aged students.


Secret Garden

Magical story of a young girl who discovers a treasured location.  Directed by Dee Jefferson.

Auditions:  June 7 and 8.  Roles for children.


The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds by Paul Zindel

August 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29 and Sept. 3, 4, 5

A person can bloom even in the most toxic environments is the moral of The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds.  Beatrice is a slovenly, acid-tongued monster of a mother.  Her daughter Ruth is attractive but high strung.  Matilda (Tillie) is shy with a gift for science.  Beatrice lashes out at Tillie's accomplishments, but she shows something beautiful and full of promise can bloom even in barren, poisened soil.  Directed by Susan Patterson.

Auditions:  June 28 and 29.  Roles for female teenagers and adult women.


Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare

September 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26

Classic tragegy about two young star crossed lovers.  NCTC will feature the entire play, with some scenes being covered with a narrator and some scenes will be done in both classic and modern styles.  Directed by Laurel Alford.

Auditions:  July 26 and 27.  Roles for teenagers.


Fuddy Meers by David Lindsay-Abaire

October 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24

Claire has a rare form of psychogenic amnesia that erases her memory whenever she goes to sleep.  When she is kidnapped and brought to her mother's country house, her journey gets even more complicated.  Crazy characters include a dimwitted thug with a foul-mouthed hand puppet, a perpetually stoned teen, and a claustrophobic lady copy.  Every twist and turn in this funhosue plot brings Claire closer to revealing her past life and everything she thought she'd forgotten.  Directed by Chaz Ferguson.

Auditions:  August 23 and 24.  Roles for one teenage male and adult males and females.


Dog Sees God by Bert V. Royal

November 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14

When CB's dog dies, CB begins to question the existence of an afterlife.  His friends are not very helpful.  His best friend is too burnt out to provide any coherent speculation.  His ex-girlfriend has recently been institutionalized.  His formerly dirty friend is a violent and angry thug.  His younger sister is trying to find an identity.  A chance meeting with a pianist from his past offers CB a chance to change.  Dog Sees God ushes the limits while presenting a harsh look at teen topics such as sex, drug use, suicide, eating disorders, peer violence, rebellion, and gay identity issues.  Directed by Paul Conroy.

Auditions:  September 20 and 21.  All characters are high school students.


Miracle on 34th Street adapted by Will Severin, Patricia DiBenedetto Snyder, and John Vreeke, from the novel by Valentine Davies

December 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19

Christmas classic story of Kris Kringle and a small girl's belief in Santa.  This charming, hilarious, and tender show is perfect for the entire family.

Auditions:  October 11 and 12.  Roles for all ages.


The Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris

December 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18

Unemployed, a slacker decides to become a Macy's elf during the holiday crunch.  At firs the job is simply humiliating, but once the thousands of visitors start pouring through Santa's workshop, he becomes bitter twoard the crowds and the Christmas spirit.  He tries to grin and bear it, but occasionally takes out his frustrations on the children and parents.  When yet another Santa enters the workshop, he finds this Santa is different from the others.  He actually seems to care about and love the children who come to see him.  This startles our hero into an uncharacteristic moment of goodwill, just before his employment runs out.

This one man show stars Jeff Allen and will be presented after the Friday and Saturday performances of Miracle on 34th Street.  Directed by Lamar Payne.
