Murder Mystery Auditions

Electoral Carnage

The plot of the mystery is as follows: The town of Meady Acres has been peacefully guided by the beloved Mayor Brandon Baker for the past 35 years, and to celebrate his retirement the entire town is invited to surprise the Mayor for his final City Council meeting! With a guest list filled with politicians and citizens all out for their own personal gain, this is the last chance for hopeful candidates to rub elbows with constituents before the next Mayoral election.

But what happens when the gathering itself is not peaceful, and people start to die? Will the Mayor be able to rise to the occasion and end the slaughter, or will other candidates have to take the law into their own hands? As more people start to drop, secrets are revealed, and it is suddenly clear that this town has only been peaceful on the surface.

Electoral Carnage will be performed as a $75 plated dinner for patrons at 7:30pm on Friday July 12,  and Saturday, July 13.

Available roles are:

Mayor Brandon Baker: (Male, 60’s-70’s) long-term incumbent mayor of Meady Acres. He is well-liked and loves serving his town. He’s older, jovial, loves his children and doesn't think much about large scale politics- he just wants to keep his constituents happy.

First Lady Betty Baker:(Female 60’s-70’s) Brandon Baker’s wife- the “First Lady” of Meady Acres. She’s always heading up volunteer groups to feed the homeless and loves giving citizens and students tours of City Hall. She organizes all the downtown events and is generally beloved by everyone in Meady Acres.

(Candidate) Cameron Baker:(Male, early 30’s) Brandon Baker’s son. Wants to follow in his father’s footsteps so badly. Currently sits on Meady Acre’s Historical Committee (as its only member). Always feels like he’s pushed aside by everyone but being the mayor’s son makes him feel like he has a chance to make a name for himself as the next mayor despite Brandon’s objections, who fears nepotism would taint his son’s political career.

Carrie Baker: (Female, early-mid 20’s) Brandon Baker’s daughter. A rebellious romantic. Wants nothing to do with politics. Is very much an anarchist who wants to start a commune. Looks up to Mallory Canton for her “activism”. Has a secret relationship with “RJ” Johnson Jr.

(Candidate) Ron “Big Ron” John Johnson:(Male, 40’s-50’s) a car dealership owner and who owns multiple dealerships in the tri-county area. Always been interested in running for mayor of Meady Acresto make the town more business friendly. His kid is a real estate developer, and he wants to be able to fast-pass their projects. Ruthless “tough guy” who is rude to everyone unless they have something they can offer.

Ron John “RJ” Johnson Jr: (Male, early-to mid 20’s) Ron John Johnson’s son. Fresh out of college with an urban development degree. Wants to transform downtown Meady Acres into a modern, posh, extravagant, live-work-play center to attract wealthy citizens to move there, but it will require several families to give up their ancestral homes. Has a forbidden romance with Brenda Baker.

Veronica Johnson: (Female, mid-late 20’s) RJ’s fifth, maybe sixth, wife. She’s exotic, mysterious, incredibly gorgeous, and it’s not really known how much English she really knows. The one thing everyone knows is she enjoys all the finer things in life and is quick to spend her husband’s money. She’s usually drunk to fight off the boredom of everyday life.

Vice Mayor Leslie Meady: (Female 30-40’s) Not very active in the municipal responsibilities. But she very much enjoys the title. She’s not very knowledgeable about any of the inner workings of government, but is very gifted in distracting and deflecting. If anything were to happen to the mayor, she’d be in charge- a spotlight she absolutely does not want.

Assistant to the Mayor Cathy Ferrell: (Female 30-50’s) Cathy’s primary job is to serve as the administrative assistant to all of City Hall, but she really only listens to the mayor. She’s quick to offer him assistance in “any way necessary”, but pays little attention to anyone else, even if it’s her literal job to do so. There are rumors (that she may have started) that she and the mayor are having a sordid secret affair.

Police Chief Ryker: (Male or female mid-late 30s/early 40s) No one knows their first name. Answers directly to the mayor. Defaults to Brandon Baker’s bodyguard in a completely unofficial status, much to Brandon’s annoyance. Takes the job very seriously. Very. Seriously. Answers only to “Chief” except to Brandon who calls them “Ryker”- corrects everybody else if they call them anything else. Very by the book.

Deputy Mattie Mayfield: (Non-Binary, mid-late 20’s) Often called “Rookie” by Ryker even though they’ve been on the force for a few years. They’re young and aggressive, though not always competent. Ryker constantly berates them even if they do their job perfectly. They can’t wait to get out of the small town and do “real police stuff”.

(Candidate) Council Member Mallory Canton: (Female late-40s-early-50s) head of the local environmental activism group. She’s adamantly opposed to stopping Ron Johnson at any cost. She’s persistent and powerful with a large inheritance from her late husband who died under mysterious circumstances after he had an affair. Often has a young, attractive partner at her side. Wants to be mayor to impose more eco-friendly policies.

Council Member Vernon Meady: (Male, historically old) A senile member of City Council who is just constantly re-elected due to a district map mix-up. Knows everything about everything but doesn’t always share that information unless directly asked or someone speaks incorrectly.

Medical Examiner Dr. Hillary Graves: (Female, 30’s-40’s) socially awkward, very cold and logical, incredibly intelligent. Speaks about death very candidly and often. Makes inappropriate comments about the health of everyone she sees, though not maliciously. Very matter of fact. Is fascinated by all things death related.
