Shrek the Musical

Newnan Theatre Company will be holding auditions for their upcoming production of Shrek the Musical on Sunday and Monday, January 19 and 20, at 7 p.m. both nights.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears.

See the audition packet linked here for details about the audition process.

The performance dates are May 8-11, 15-18, & 22-25, 2025. Show times are 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with 3 p.m. matinees on Sundays.

Available roles are:

Shrek (mid 20’s to late 30’s, very tall and bigger build)- very tough, sarcastic and loves to keep to himself. But underneath, he’s kind hearted, loyal and searching for acceptance.

Fiona (mid 20’s to late 30’s and tall)- is strong willed, independent and optimistic. Though she’s been isolated, she’s kind hearted and longing for true love. Even if it’s not what she expected.

Donkey (mid 20’s to late 30’s and short)- is very talkative, energetic, and fiercely loyal. He’s friendly and always ready to make a joke, but he is also deeply caring and supportive of his friends.

Lord Farquaad (late 20’s to late 30’s, short, and willing to do intensive choreography on knees)- is ambitious, vain, and power-hungry. He’s ruthless in his pursuit of perfection, but underneath his arrogance, he’s insecure and obsessed with control.

Dragon (mid to late 20’s)- is fierce, confident, and playful. While she’s initially intimidating, she’s also loyal, caring, and unexpectedly tender, especially when it comes to love.

Gingy (mid 20’s to mid 30’s, willing to puppeteer)- is spunky, brave, and full of sass. Though small, he’s got a big personality and isn’t afraid to stand up for himself, especially when it comes to defending his friends.

Pinocchio (mid 20’s to mid 30’s, tall, and small build)- is naive, eager to please, and a bit mischievous. He’s learning what it means to be honest and brave, often finding himself in over his head but always with good intentions.

Captain and Guards- add a comedic, lighthearted touch to the story, often more concerned with following orders than actual competence.

Fairytale Creatures- are a quirky, diverse group of outcasts, each with their own unique personalities. They’re resilient, brave, and full of heart, finding strength in their differences while banding together to fight for a better life.
